From Dream to Reality: The Story Behind the Name Ashavri
From dream to reality, step by step.
I bought the domain name www.ashavri.com in June 2021. But the journey of Ashavri began much earlier—way back around 2009, when I was exploring fashion design. I have no idea how the word actually came into my presence, but I believe I was simply playing around with words that started with “A,” mixing vowels and consonants until something resonated.
Eventually, I landed on Ashavri . I loved the sound of it.
Years passed. And sometime later, I felt compelled to explore the meaning of this beautiful word that had stayed with me. Fast forward to around 2016—my mom and dad had both passed away . They are now up above, watching over me.
That’s when I discovered something that took my breath away: Ashavri means “spirit of the heavens.”
Not only that, but it’s also the name of a Hindustani classical raga. A raga is a set of musical notes used in Indian music to express a mood or emotion.
In Sanskrit roots, Āsha can relate to hope or spirit, and Vari can imply flowing or celestial essence.
So together, Ashavari beautifully evokes a sense of the ethereal, or a melody from the heavens.
As a singer and pianist, that felt like a divine sign!
It was serendipitous—profoundly personal and deeply musical.
Ashavri began to mean so much more to me. It evoked my parents—the spirit of the heavens for me.
It also connected to my musical roots: my grandmother was a Carnatic music and Veena teacher.
So, when the time came to launch a jewelry brand, the name felt inevitable.
Ashavri was already there—waiting.
Rooted in sound, in spirit, in memory.
How much more perfect could it be?
Ashavari isn’t just a brand.
It’s a name that carries generations.
It’s music. It’s meaning.
It’s my way of honoring those who came before me—
and offering something beautiful to the world.
